About

About Deadlock ping

Test your Deadlock ping to every server region from the browser. Valve's Deadlock matches run over the Steam Datagram Relay, so the lowest-latency region keeps last-hits, skill-shots, and lane trades responsive. This tool probes a server in each Deadlock region and ranks them by round-trip time.

Deadlock ping guide: excellent under 50 ms · good under 90 ms · playable under 120 ms · rough past 200 ms.

Methodology

How this maps to in-game Deadlock ping

Deadlock matches use Valve's matchmaking regions over the Steam Datagram Relay. This test probes the nearest endpoint per region over HTTPS and ranks by round-trip time. As with other Valve titles, in-client ping reads a little under browser RTT — rely on the regional ordering to pick where you queue.

FAQ

Deadlock ping — frequently asked

What is a good ping for Deadlock?
Under 50 ms is excellent and under 90 ms is good. Deadlock stays playable to about 120 ms and tolerable to ~200 ms, though aim-heavy abilities reward lower latency.
Why does my in-game Deadlock ping differ from this?
Deadlock sends UDP through Valve SDR, which browsers can't do. This test probes the nearest cloud region over HTTPS — add roughly 5–15 ms for overhead, but the region ranking matches the in-game picture.
How do I lower my Deadlock ping?
Choose the lowest-ping region below, play on a wired connection, and close background uploads. VPNs rarely help unless they shorten the route to your nearest Valve PoP.
Which Deadlock region should I play on?
The lowest-latency region with a healthy queue. The table lists the nearest Valve PoP for each region so you can verify the route makes sense.

How this maps to in-game ping

Real game traffic is UDP; browsers can't open raw sockets. We probe AWS S3 regional endpoints (anycast-free HTTPS) and map each Valve SDR PoP to its nearest AWS region by great-circle distance. Expect ~5–15 ms TCP+TLS overhead vs in-game UDP, but the relative ordering of regions tracks closely.

Confidence: medium-high

Strong for relative ranking and choosing a region. Absolute numbers carry HTTPS overhead. Coverage is sparse in some places (mainland CN, parts of RU/ME) — those regions show rather than a misleading number.
